Inloco Gallery’s virtual world VERTICAL HORIZON / 361 DEGREES was selected for Best of Worlds, a special section of Venice Immersive 2026. Part of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, Venice Immersive is dedicated to extended reality art and takes place on Isola del Lazzaretto Vecchio.
Curated by Michael Salmon, Best of Worlds presents 26 projects selected from a longlist of more than 800 virtual worlds published on VRChat over the past year.
VERTICAL HORIZON / 361 DEGREES was created by Inloco in collaboration with artist Karim Jabbari for his eponymous solo exhibition at the gallery in 2025. The virtual world takes the form of a surreal labyrinth inspired by the historical architecture of Arab cities. As visitors move through its winding passages, they encounter Jabbari’s calligraphic works and search for five hidden words that form the artist’s message.
The project translates Jabbari’s light calligraphy practice into a digital environment. Combining classical Arabic calligraphy, light, and photography, his work partially draws on historic Tunisian manuscripts preserved by his father and on his long-standing practice in public and street art.
