In “The Inner Fire” created in Tunisia 2013, by the artist Karim Jabbari, a renowned pioneer in light calligraphy, a stream of fiery light sweeps through the image in one fluid motion, with the maker standing in the background framed against the silhouette of an ancient tree, accentuating the interplay between static and fluid elements within the composition.
The title “The Inner Fire” is translated from the Arabic text depicted and conveyed through the frozen movement of light, expertly captured by using the technique of long-exposure photography. The Arabic calligraphy showcased incorporates ancient scripts such as Maghribi and Kufic, each holding profound personal significance for the Tunisian-born artist. Paisagem series
Italian contemporary artist Filippo Minelli created the “Paisagem” series in 2020, drawing inspiration from the landscapes along the Portuguese-Spanish border where his studio is located. In this series, Minelli combines natural materials transferred onto paper and canvas with photographic imagery depicting urban scenes marked by human intervention. This juxtaposition creates a dialogue between the untouched natural elements and the altered urban environments, inviting viewers to reconsider everyday items often overlooked. Through “Paisagem,” Minelli explores liminal spaces, both politically and aesthetically, challenging perceptions of contemporary landscapes. The Portuguese term for “landscape,” “Paisagem,” serves as a central motif in Minelli's work, reflecting his fascination with the interplay between nature and human influence.
